I had just made an Ice Cream run because my local Canadian grocery store had both Haagen-Dazs AND Ben & Jerry's on sale. I stocked up. I picked up Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Tracks, Milk & Cookies, Caramel Hat-Trick, We Are Waffling (Now known as Oh Cone-ada!), Haagen-Dazs Caramel Cone Explosion, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookie Dough Dynamo, Rocky Road, Mayan Chocolate, Irresistibles Premium Amaretto Gelato, London Ice Cream Company (2L) Moose Tracks, Strawberries & Cream, Chocolate Peanut Butter Mudpuddle, and St. Jacob's Apple Pie.
Although Caramel Cone Explosion looked delicious and very appealing, it was not the first one I wanted to try of my new batch. I was eying the peanut butter flavoured Ice Creams but was forced to take this one first because of some Ice Cream leaking from the top cap. I didn't really know what to expect except for a caramel based Ice Cream although no as sweet as Dulce de Leche, with pieces of chocolate covered waffle cone pieces and some almond pieces. As I dug in I was right when the base was not as sweet as dulce de leche but man was it good. It was a traditional creamy. not-too-sweet Caramel base that only Haagen-Dazs could achieve (I love their ice cream bases). The chocolate covered waffle cones were everywhere but they weren't that delicious. I found the chocolate overpowering to the waffle and the waffle just plain stale. However, the real winner was were almonds. They were covered with toffee! perfectly crunchy and sweet that played beautifully with the Caramel Ice Cream.
Verdict: 9/10 - This high score is rewarded because of the deliciousness and generous servings of mix ins all in a perfect base of caramel Ice Cream. Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Bases > Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Bases... as for mix ins? too early to decide. I will be buying this again.
