''A combination of Caramel & Sweet Cream, Swirled''Although I still have a pint of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia staring at me every time I opened the freezer door I, once again, pushed it aside for another pint. I don't know what it is but Cherry ice cream with fudge and cherries says ''boring'' to me without even cracking open the pint. I will however eat it eventually for tasting purposes. Today however, I was in the mood for something different than vanilla or chocolate without taking any fruit flavoured ice creams either. I wanted to step away from Ben & Jerry's for a change and this caramel infusion was just what I was looking for.
Reading the label and seeing the lack of mix-ins in this pint, I had prepared myself with some Reese's Miniature Peanut Butter Cups on the side. Honestly, I didn't need them. Although this pint was bound to be on the boring side, it was oddly refreshing. Growing up with a Chilean mother, I ate so many Dulce de Leche sandwiches that I would almost call myself a professional taste tester for it and honestly, for a half the fat Ice Cream, Haagen-Dazs really nailed this one. The sweet cream-caramel base was delicious, rich, and smooth whilst the dulce de leche swirl was creamy and sweet. I can't believe I would say this about a ''half the fat'' ice cream but it's the tastiest caramel base I've ever had.
Verdict: 7/10 - This score says a lot for a reduced fat Ice Cream. The base and swirl are perfectly sweet and creamy. For some reason having already tried this though, I don't feel the need to buy again. Not because I didn't enjoy it, just because I don't feel the need to taste it again. I would however buy the regular fatty Dulce de Leche just to see how it compares to their reduced fat one.
